Starting out from the Hotel and walking along the coast road, you come to the dense pine forest that, for more than 50 years, has been protecting the sandy coast road from the lido to Maria Pia. The white sand dunes and the lush pine forest combine to create a large area of shade, thus allowing typically Sardinia wildlife to flourish. The Lido beach, sheltered from the wind, is famed for its light-coloured sand and crystalline water that makes it easy to take in the wonders of the seabed.

For those who would like to discover other beautiful place in the vicinity, take the Porto Conte road from Alghero and – at around 2 km from Fertilia – turn left in a narrow street that will lead you to the Bombarde beach. This 1km-long and 10m-wide beach is concealed within an inlet, between a rocky patch and a thick wood of pine and eucalyptus.

The sandy beach, with its rocky edges, is known for relatively low temperature of the sea and for its cleanliness. The popular bar on the seafront is a special favourite of young people. After the fork that leads to the Bombarde beach, you will come to another wonderful beach, again hidden between the rocks of a little inlet and surrounded by a Mediterranean scrub, called Lazzaretto.

This is just one of many enchanting local beaches, all of which are dominated by the imposing, 16th-century Spanish tower that looms down from above. Proceeding towards Sassari, you will come to a small village called Santa Maria la Palma after around 3 km.

(Spiaggia di Porto Ferro)

Here you will see a sign for Porto Ferro beach, which is an exceptional, half-moon-shaped beach with fine, reddish sand that sits under three 16th-century Spanish watchtowers. Behind the sandy shore, the lush Mediterranean maquis stretches as far as the sea. Endowed with numerous reefs and often exposed to the mistral, Porto Ferro beach is the location of choice for surfers.
